Harriet Earis Harpist Evening at the Hall

On Saturday 7th May the Village Hall hosted award-winning harpist Harriet Earis. Attendance from the village was a little disappointing but word of mouth and an article in the Gem resulted in a packed Hall and a sold out event as people from the village and the wider area enjoyed a wonderful evening’s entertainment.

The Hall was set out in individual tables around a central stage, which was just big enough to accommodate Harriet’s music instruments including an enormous Celtic harp and an even bigger classical harp. The Hall looked marvellous with vases of spring flowers on all the tables courtesy of Lynne Rees.

The evening included a Welsh supper of Leek and Caerphilly cheese tarts, which were provided by the ladies of the village and enjoyed by all who attended.

The music was the highlight of the evening with a wide-ranging repertoire, which extended from the oldest Harp music ever written in the 12th century to modern day jazz. (On a harp!)

Thanks to all who helped arrange this wonderful event and thanks to all who attended and made it such a success.

Harriet was classically trained reaching Grade 8 with Distinction on concert pedal harp, but now specializes in the Celtic harp. She is a full-time harpist, playing extensively throughout the UK and abroad. We were pleased that Harriet agreed to return to Aberthin Village Hall to give what was a truly magical presentation.
